Widely accepted theories about color psychology and emotions have been developed lately, through research and clinical tests. That’s the reason why light blue and light green colors are used in schools and hospitals interior walls in order to make people feel calm. Red colors are used at restaurants and fast foods to make people feel hungry and to make them want to leave the place quickly leaving free tables for next customers. More dull and low saturated colors are used in army facilities to increase the feeling of allegiance to soldiers. But the effect that colors create to people changes over time and across countries.
We could not deny the influence of fashion industry trends on many color choices, even if most of them may be subconsciously taken. Seasonality in fashion markets creates some kind of obsolescence that is programmed in a way. Color-trend experts analyze today’s trends and choices, trying to predict what car colors would be the most admirable for the future. A particular color stripe highlight on a Prada bag or a Gucci shoe might find its way into business cards, website design, interior design, office furniture and so on.
Culture also affects the way colors are interpreted. One of the most popular examples is that in Western cultures, people wear black to funerals; while in Eastern cultures they wear white. The cultural connotations of color are often learned and used in advertising and subconscious manipulating so be aware of what some people may want you to do or feel!
